Major: Integrated Marketing Communications
Graduated: April 2013
Chelsie Rohrs is a Simpson College graduate who majored in Integrated Marketing Communications. She recently gained a full-time job at the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines as its Special Events Manager.
Why did you decide to transfer to Simpson College?
“I decided to transfer to Simpson from Wayne State College because I was unhappy there. I was on the Women’s basketball team and knew I still wanted to play ball. Coach Niemuth had a very good reputation and I saw myself enjoying playing for him. I was also always aware of Simpson College’s good academics.
Another reason for choosing Simpson was because of the location. It had the small college feel to it, but it was so close to Des Moines that I knew there would be many opportunities for me when looking for internships and activities to do.”
What has your Simpson College experience been like?
“My Simpson experience has definitely been a positive one. I transferred in at the beginning of my junior year and was fortunate to have a very smooth transition to and from colleges. The coaching staff and my teammates made me feel very welcome, as did my new professors. I majored in Integrated Marketing Communications and many of my courses from Wayne State transferred over, which was really nice! Simpson has given me many opportunities such as two internships last spring. I had an internship with the Iowa Events Center as their Marketing and Public Relations intern and an internship with the Principal Charity Classic as their Special Events Coordinator. These internships helped me land a full-time job.”
How has the Department of Communications and Media Studies helped you?
“We have a great program! The professors are really understanding and always willing to help. Brian Steffen, my advisor, is great at what he does. He helped me with different networking connections he knew and different opportunities for internships that I should look into. I feel very blessed to have had such a great support system and group of knowledgeable people behind me here at Simpson.”
