Theatre Mask Making May Term Class

Students display masks they made during a May Term course

May Term provides a change of emphasis in the academic year and permits three weeks of intensive study of a single academic course.

Mask Characterization - Based on the work of director and acting teacher Libby Appel, this course was designed to help anyone interested in performing to explore the depth of their imagination and free the use of their bodies.  Utilizing a set of grotesque masks each student participated in a series of exercises to aid them in developing a unique character.  The course culminated in performances at the Fourth Street Theatre in downtown Des Moines.
