Lane took over as vice president for college advancement in 2007. During his time he's overseen numerous successful fundraising campaigns, including multiple record-breaking annual funds. His most recent venture is the Imagine the Impact campaign, which announced more than 80 percent progress toward a $25 million goal in October 2019.
Lane served as interim president at Simpson from Jan. 1 to June 1, 2020, leading the college during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Upon the hiring of president Marsha Kelliher, Lane returned to his role as vice president for college advancement while continuing to serve on the president's cabinet.
Prior to Simpson, Lane served as vice president for advancement at Illinois College for 11 years. He previously spent time at Cornell College and started his Simpson career as an admissions counselor. Lane earned his bachelor's from Simpson in 1981 and was a member of the football, golf and track and field teams. He went on to earn his master's in higher education administration from Iowa State University in 1989.
