Biography
- Welcome to Simpson College Teacher Education Program. My name is Sharon J. Jensen and I began teaching at Simpson in the fall of 1995. However, this is my second experience with Simpson College because I also graduated from here in 1985. My first teaching job after graduation was in Hartley-Melvin CSD in northwest Iowa where I worked with the most wonderful first graders, colleagues, families, and community for three years. Coming from southwest Iowa, I learned what a real snow day was while living in northwest Iowa. My next teaching assignment was with third graders for the Indianola CSD. After three years, I decided to attend graduate school at ISU to pursue my masters in elementary education and then continued on in their doctorate program earning a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in literacy. While in graduate school, I was fortunate to teach undergraduate future teachers in courses such as foundations of education, strategies in teaching, math methods, and reading/language arts methods. Currently I teach future teachers how to teach reading/language arts, corrective reading, supervise practicum and student teachers, and serve as a sponsor for the Education Club at Simpson College. I have three daughters aged 15, 11, and 10 who are the loves of my life and have taught me more about myself than I ever dreamed possible.
