Art plays a pivotal role in understanding our past as well as our future
When you begin to see how art has influenced our history, you gain a deeper understanding of its power. How art has progressed and changed often mirrors societal and cultural adaptations. The study of art history provides a critical lens in understanding where we’ve been and where we are going.
What will I learn?
Gain knowledge of art in the context of a broad array of cultures and historical periods. A minor in Art History enriches and complements a variety of existing majors, particularly the Studio Art major and Graphic Design major, but also any number of other majors including those in History, Religion, English, Theatre and Music.
Examine the art and artifacts created from prehistoric times to the end of the Gothic era, with a primary focus on the art of the Western European world.
Art scholarships available!
Serious about studying art at Simpson? We have a scholarship for that! If you are an art major or minor, all you have to do is submit a portfolio of 12 works of art and two letters of recommendation to be considered. If selected, you will receive financial aid you can apply toward tuition and other expenses.
