SIMPSON EXPERIENCE ABROAD
These semester-long programs are led by a Simpson faculty member, who also serves as the resident director and teaches one or more of the courses offered. Email International Education Director Jay Wilkinson with any questions or interest.
Study at Simpson’s newest partner institution, the University of Adelaide, in the state of South Australia. Take classes taught by the Simpson program director as well as a wide range of UA course offerings to fulfill either general education or major/minor requirements. Get to know the local culture by living with a host family. Offered fall semester of even-numbered years.
Spend a semester immersed in the culture, history, language, and literature of Chile under the direction of a Simpson professor. Work on your language skills while getting to know your Chilean host families and visiting important historical and cultural sites including Chile’s capital, Santiago. Offered spring semester of even-numbered years.
Live, learn, and explore London sites on study tours with other Simpson students, accompanied by a Simpson professor, in one of the world’s great historical, cultural, political, and economic centers. Offered fall semester of odd-numbered years.
During this intensive learning experience led by a Simpson professor, study German language, culture, history, and literature while living with German families. Included are visits to historical and cultural sites and week-long study tours to Munich and Berlin. Offered spring semester of odd-numbered years.
Tahiti, French Polynesia
Study for a semester in the tropical paradise of a South Pacific island which offers a rich cultural environment combining both Western and non-Western cultural elements in one location. All students, regardless of major, are welcome to participate in the program with the prerequisite of FREN 111. Offered spring semester of even-numbered years.
Chiang Mai, Thailand
Held in a fascinating part of the developing world, this program offers the chance to learn about Thailand, Thai language, Thai culture, and topics related to Southeast Asia in general. Course-related field trips, excursions, and other cultural activities are included as well. Live in modern apartments just off CMU’s campus with both local and international students. Offered spring semester of odd-numbered years.
Participate in programs operated through a bilateral exchange agreement between the college and another institution abroad and have those credits transferred back to Simpson. Email International Education Director Jay Wilkinson with any questions or interest.
The State Higher Vocation School (PWSZ) in Krosno, Poland
During spring semester in Krosno, take beginning Polish language courses as well as a courses taught in English like Introduction to Poland, The Holocaust, European Identity, American Popular Culture, and more. Serve as an English language teaching assistant and join fellow international students at PWSZ on excursions led in the surrounding region. Live with other international students in a university apartment located a short walk from campus.
The University of Murcia in Spain
Take courses at the university with Spanish students in a wide-range of topics with support from the university’s Office of International Relations. Live in apartments in town with other international students or host families, depending upon your preference.
The University of French Polynesia in Tahiti
Take courses at the university with local students in a wide-range of topics with support from the university’s Office of International Relations. Live with host families who provide breakfast and dinner each weekday as well as all weekend meals or other local accommodations.
Irish American Scholars Program in Northern Ireland
Apply to study for a semester or an academic year at Belfast Metropolitan College, Queens University, St. Mary’s University College, Stranmillis University College, or the University of Ulster, all of which are located in Northern Ireland.
Catholic University of the West (UCO) in Angers, France
Study French in a European setting any fall or spring semester or during a month-long summer term. Students with any level of French skills are welcome to participant in classes geared specifically toward improving language levels. Accommodations can be with local host families or in university-affiliated foyers (residence halls).
Harlaxton College, the British campus of the University of Evansville
Join students from all over the U.S. to study for a semester in a unique academic and cultural learning environment. The college is situated in an impressive, 19th-century manor house within 117 acres of gardens, park, and woodland.
