Simpson Orientation, Advising, & Registration (SOAR)

A day devoted to making your transition to college easier

SOAR is designed to introduce you to college by helping you register for classes and giving you the best advice regarding transitioning to college life.

Participate in a VIRTUAL SOAR day

Students who have paid their enrollment deposit will receive log-in information and instructions to register for SOAR through their personal SC Connect portal. 

Simpson Orientation, Advising, & Registration (SOAR) is a complete introduction for new first-year students to Simpson College. You will choose one of the scheduled days for a virtual experience. During your scheduled SOAR day, you will meet your faculty advisor, register for your first semester classes, receive all contact information and access to SC Connect and start building both personal and academic relationships. Throughout this process, you will have the guidance of a current student who will serve as your orientation leader both in the summer and again in the fall when you begin your college journey at Simpson.

The 2020 SOAR dates are:

  • June 11th
  • June 12th
  • June 15th 
  • June 16th

SOAR Student and Guest Schedules
We will have a student and guest track at Virtual SOAR 2020. We would like to invite parents/ guardians/ guests to participate in the Virtual Guest Track for the day. We are also excited to provide a Virtual SOAR Schedule for the students that allow ample time for them to meet their SC Leader, SC101 Faculty Advisor, others in their SC101 section, and a 1:1 schedule registration time. Joining SOAR
To participate in SOAR, you will either need to download the Whova app or participate in the Whova Web App. Prior to your date, please download the app. Here are handy instructions to help out. You can also participate in sessions by listening over the phone. A phone number will be included for each session to call in.

Account Access – Guests
We will be setting up access to the Whova app with the email addresses that your student provided in the SOAR form. You will not be able to sign in yet! We will notify you when you have access to log in. When you log in you will have a customized schedule with a custom link to meet your student’s Faculty Advisor. We can set up more than one account for guests, if needed. Please email anna.pena@simpson.edu to change the email address or to add a second guest account. Please share the guest first name, last name, email address and student that is attending SOAR.

Technical Issues
Before and during SOAR, if questions or issues arise, email firstyear@simpson.edu
 for technical and programming assistance. We will have staff and students monitoring the account to answer your questions and direct them to the appropriate area, as needed.

 to prepare for SOAR.
