SUMMARY:The Gun Show
DESCRIPTION:“The Gun Show”\, by award-winning playwright E.M. Lewis\, tells the story of America’s relationship with guns through the prism of her own personal experiences. She starts during her youth in a rural farming community where she learns about guns from her dad\, has her first date with a special person at a shooting range\, and then\, as life’s journey takes her to ‘big cities’ like Los Angeles and New York\, finds herself in more complicated\, less upbeat\, and sometimes dangerous\, gun situations. Using a light\, often hilarious touch\, Lewis takes us on a 45-mintue journey across the wide social and political terrain of America’s most dangerous pastime with brutal honesty and keen understanding. Leaning neither right nor left\, The Gun Show jumps into the middle of the gun control debate and asks\, “Can we just have a conversation about this?”

SUMMARY:Simpson Productions presents The Old Maid & the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti
DESCRIPTION:Originally commissioned for radio in 1939\, The Old Maid and the Thief is a witty and satirical tale of gossip\, deception\, and the facades we maintain in the name of propriety. Set in a quiet American town\, the opera follows the lives of Miss Todd and her housemaid Letitia as they take in a charming wanderer only to find themselves entangled in increasingly outrageous moral compromises. \nThis production brings Menotti’s lively score and sharp humor to life in a clever recreation of that first radio play that’s as thought-provoking as it is entertaining

SUMMARY:Safety Last! a silent film performance by the Vivo Chamber Players
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, January 30th\, at 7:00 pm Vivo will be performing the music and sound effects to Safety Last!\, a silent film starring Harold Lloyd. The musical score was written by Dr. John Benoit\, Professor of Music at Simpson College. The performance is free\, but reservations are required because of the limited seating in Lekberg Hall of the Amy Robertson Music Center. Reservations may be made at TicketLeap.com. https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/vivo-chamber-players/SafetyLast \nOn Saturday\, January 31st\, at 7:00 pm\, Vivo will be performing to the same film at St. John’s Lutheran Church\, 600 6th Ave\, Des Moines. The performance is free\, although the church will ask for a free-will donation. Reservations are not required. Harold Lloyd was one of the more famous silent film stars — and the highest paid — during the 1920’s. He was considered to be the first screen actor to use physical danger as a source of laughter. His comedic stunts rivaled those of Buster Keaton. In Safety Last!\, Harold Lloyd plays an ambitious young sales clerk who wants to impress his boss with a spectacular stunt to bring more costumers to the department store. He enlists the help of his friend (Bill Strother)\, a high-heights worker\, who is always ready for an adventure. This adventure does not unfold according to plan. Join us to discover how Harold gets himself out of this mess! \nYou may go to the following link to see a movie trailer created by Dr. John Benoit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os-Plz4XJxg The Vivo Chamber Players is an ensemble made up of the Simpson instrumental music faculty and other music-professional friends. Please\, come see what all the excitement is about!
