Iowa History Center

The Iowa History Center programming spreads the importance of studying Iowa's past throughout K-12 students, scholars, and the general public.

Iowa History Speaker Series presents important programs about Iowa and the Midwest.

Scholars Program annually invites five incoming students to work with the Center and participate in our Oral History Program. Recipients receive up to a $20,000 renewable scholarship.

Annual Award for the Outstanding Master's Thesis in Iowa History encourages graduate study in Iowa history by recognizing outstanding work in the field.

Iowa History Internship Program offers hands-on experience for Simpson students in public history at local institutions.

Iowa and the Midwest Experience is a unique book series created through the Center's partnership with the University of Iowa Press that published books about Iowa history.

K-12 Field Trip Grants provide funding of up to $500 to classes on a first-come, first-serve basis seeking history-oriented field trips.

We are committed to preserving and promoting the state’s history and encouraging a public conversation about the story of Iowa. Our mission is to advance the understanding and appreciation of Iowa history among the state’s students, scholars and general public. We have established a number of programs designed to heighten public awareness and interest in Iowa history, expand educational opportunities in Iowa history, and make this history more widely available.
