If you're interested in media or communications, there are plenty of ways to keep busy and build your resume.

  • The Simpsonian – The Simpsonian is the nation’s oldest continually published student newspaper, dating back to September 1870. The paper earned ICMA News Media Organization of the Year honors in 2017 and 2018.
  • KSTM FM – Storm Radio can be found at 88.9 FM. The radio station serves Simpson College, Indianola and Warren County with news, sports, weather and music. KSTM plays all genres of music with various student-hosted shows.
  • ID Magazine – When it comes to lifestyle and culture at Simpson, ID Magazine has the story. ID Magazine is a print and online magazine covering trends, fashion, music and more. Students write, edit and design the bi-annually published magazine.

The PRSSA is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communication careers. Simpson is one of the only schools of our size who has a chapter of this dynamic organization on our campus. The group gives its members the opportunity to engage in professional development through conferences, networking with communication professionals, fundraising and event planning and promotion.

The Des Moines Public Relations Society of America chapter sponsors social events where students can network with professionals in their field. There are monthly luncheons as well as national and regional events. Along with these professional networking opportunities, you are able to enhance your education through leadership positions and scholarship opportunities.

The chapter hosts the annual Goodwill Fashion Show as both an entertainment and charity event and brings to campus monthly professional speakers. Members also work with Simpson’s Career Development Office to put on networking and training events on campus.

C Street Agency is a student-run public relations firm assisting real client organizations with PR-related projects. Participants apply for staff positions ranging from firm director to account executive to social media manager and PR writer. You can enhance your professional portfolios with your completed work, which includes blogs, newsletters, press releases, videos and social media strategies.

The agency works with local businesses and organizations to improve their social media, online content and media relations, and gives you the opportunity to experience what a real public relations firm is like. That type of accountability and motivation can’t adequately be replicated in a classroom.

As part of the group, agency employees work directly with clients. You will learn how to write press releases, manage social media and manage workflow with your clients. There are also opportunities to organize events and work with media relations.
