There are entrepreneurs and then there are entrepreneurs like Fungisai Nota 04. He’s in a world of his own when it comes to breaking new ground. The highly accomplished economist is founder and CEO of four start-up ventures focused on serving the health and financial welfare of people in greatest need.

Nota’s career began in higher education, teaching economics at Wartburg College and the University of Northern Iowa. During that time his heart was pulled in another direction.

“I recognized that my calling was in serving people living at the intersection of poverty and healthcare disparities,” said Nota. “So, I went to work for a healthcare nonprofit [AIDS Care Group] in Philadelphia. That firsthand experience gave me the confidence to be an entrepreneur — opening businesses in healthcare consulting, retail and specialty pharmacies, and now health tech.”

Doing Global Good

His Nota Consulting Group (NCG) has worked with more than 75 pharmaceutical entities nationwide to develop compliant 340B drug pricing programs, which provides financial help to hospitals serving vulnerable communities. NCG has also been a partner in the provision of health and supportive services to more than 5,000 people living with HIV/AIDS.

Meanwhile, at Proverbs Capital, Nota leads his team in helping nonprofit businesses in lowering costs through factoring. His Pharmacy Solutions Simplified business endeavors to help conceptualize, design, build and operate in-house pharmacies for health centers.

Perhaps Nota’s most exciting business venture is Navala Global, which features a comprehensive digital platform boasting a secure patient health app and an integrated electronic health records system. The cutting-edge technology is making a game-changing impact already.

“We are democratizing access to quality healthcare for those in the Global South,” said Nota. “We’re making it possible for those in remote villages to access top medical specialists from anywhere in the world.”
