Wednesday, July 27 – Simpson at the Warren County Fair
Stop by the Simpson College booth on Wednesday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. You can spin the prize wheel, get a Simpson College temporary tattoo, and snap a photo with our new life-sized Thunder cutout. You can also grab a Simpson sweat towel from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Simpson tent outside the grandstand. We hope to see you there!
Friday, July 29 – Simpson Des Moines Choral Festival: Of Love and War
Join us at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church to enjoy pieces of love and war. Composers include Monteverdi, Gesualdo, Jeffrey Van, and Jake Runestad, featuring Conductor Dr. Timothy McMillin and Graduate Conductors Rebekah Bridges, Colby Gochanour and Jacob Ven Huizen.
Saturday, July 30 – Simpson at the Warren County Parade
Come grab some Simpson swag and celebrate Warren County at the Warren County parade Saturday, July 31 at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at Memorial Park and end at Buxton Park for the Indianola Summer Arts Festival!
Sunday, July 31 – Master of Music in Choral Conducting Commencement Ceremony
Simpson College will celebrate the second class of graduates from its Master of Music in Choral Conducting program with a commencement ceremony and concert at Smith Chapel on Sunday, July 31. The ceremony begins at noon with family and friends in attendance. The event will also be live streamed through the Des Moines Choral Festival’s Facebook page.
Sunday, July 31 – Simpson Day at the Blank Park Zoo
Enjoy a family-friendly gathering on July 31 at Iowa’s Wildest Adventure, the Blank Park Zoo. The Alumni Office will provide one complimentary ticket per alum with additional admission tickets discounted to $7/person. Meet us in the Pavilion for a complimentary catered luncheon from 12-2 p.m. with educational animals presented at 1 p.m. Guests will also be able to enjoy complimentary face painting.
Sunday, July 31 – Simpson Des Moines Choral Festival: Closing Festival Masterwork
Join us at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church for the final concert of the 2022 festival. The concert includes iconic works of Purcell, Handel, and Thompson. The first half of the concert showcases some of our Vocal Artists as we welcome music’s pleasures and praise Saint Cecilia, the patron Saint of Music. In the second half of the concert, graduating conductors in the 3-Summer MM in Choral Conducting degree conduct Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana” with the DMCF Festival Chorus and Orchestra.
Monday, August 1 – Storm Golf Outing – Athletic Benefit
The 2022 Storm Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, August 1. The 18-hole golf scramble will be held at Indianola Country Club and will consist of four-player teams. A team of four is $600 or $150 per player. This includes lunch, course and cart fees, games and mulligans. All golfers are welcome to stick around after golf to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Lunch and check-in will be available 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., with a shotgun start to follow at 1 p.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Simpson College Athletic Department and its over 500 student-athletes. Your participation and support are greatly appreciated.
Wednesday, August 10 – Iowa State Fair Parade
Wave hello to President Kelliher and friends at Iowa’s largest parade on Wednesday, August 10. The parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. in downtown Des Moines on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Spectators will be able to watch an estimated 200 floats, animals, vehicles, novelty and performing units. Staging will take place at the State Capitol Complex. The parade route starts at the State Capitol Complex and marches west on Grand to 15th Street. The parade will be broadcast live on Iowa PBS starting at 6:15 p.m.
Saturday, August 13 – Simpson Day at the Iowa State Fair
Join us on August 13 at 1:45 p.m. for a group photo at the Simpson College sponsored Sand Sculpture at the entrance to the midway! Then make your way to Stockman’s Inn, an Iowa State Fair landmark, to celebrate Simpson Day at the Iowa State Fair from 2-4 p.m. Complimentary appetizers and a drink ticket will be provided to all guests.
