Culver Center to Host Speaker on Labor Union Voices in Politics

Working Class Heroes Fund founder Dan Osborn will discuss “Labor Union Voices in Politics” at an event hosted by Simpson’s Culver Center at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Hubbell Hall. Osborn’s organization seeks to unite and mobilize working people across party lines to give them direct representation in politics.

“Dan Osborn has received national attention for his independent candidacy for U.S. Senate from Nebraska and his work to mobilize labor union members to run for office through the Working Class Heroes Fund,” said Seth Andersen, director of the nonpartisan Culver Public Policy Center at Simpson College. “The Culver Center welcomes all interested community members – regardless of partisan affiliation – to attend Osborn’s talk and learn more about opportunities for working people to become more actively engaged in politics at a time when labor unions are enjoying a resurgence in organizing success in many industries.”

Osborn is a U.S. Navy veteran, industrial mechanic, former labor union leader and independent politician from Nebraska. He ran as an independent for U.S. Senate from Nebraska in 2024, garnering 46.5 percent of the general election vote. He recently announced another candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat from Nebraska, which is up for election in 2026.

As a nonpartisan organization, Simpson’s John C. Culver Public Policy Center neither endorses nor supports any candidates for elected office. Rather, the Culver Center hosts prominent figures from across the political and ideological spectrums to educate students and the broader community about a broad range of public policy issues from multiple perspectives.
