Indianola, Simpson Reignite Community Partnership
Simpson College and the City of Indianola are seeking new ways to enhance and expand community partnerships through the recent creation of the Indianola-Simpson Town and Gown Committee. Led by co-chairs Simpson President Jay Byers and Indianola Mayor Stephanie Erickson, the committee includes local Simpson alumni, City officials, Indianola Chamber of Commerce members, business owners, Indianola Community School District officials, and Warren County leaders.
“Simpson College has been a proud part of the Indianola community since 1860,” said President Byers. “And over the years we’ve done some great things together. But there are so many other exciting ways we can partner for greater impact and mutual benefit. I look forward to engaging all of our great community leaders in reimagining and expanding avenues for creative collaboration in building our prosperous collective future.”
The Indianola-Simpson Town and Gown Committee will seek synergy in capitalizing on the shared momentum the City and the College have already established.
“Collaboration is key to progress, and this is the perfect time for the City of Indianola and Simpson College to come together with a renewed sense of purpose and possibilities,” said Mayor Erickson. “Through this committee, our aim is to explore untapped potential that amplifies our shared values and resonates with the spirit of our citizens. We are poised to continue doing some truly special things together that elevate, enhance and enrich our vibrant community.”
Recent initiatives have included the Storm the Night Festival featuring a National Balloon Classic “Nite Glow” during Simpson Homecoming this fall. Community and College leaders are also planning to coordinate numerous George Washington Carver Day celebrations across Indianola in February. Future endeavors will focus on generating opportunities for more shared programming and participation in City, community and campus events, as well as creating heightened engagement and cross promotion between Simpson and Indianola businesses and schools.
The Town and Gown Committee held its first meeting late last month and will gather on a regular basis to develop formal and informal shared initiatives for 2024 and beyond.
