#ONESimpsonDay The Original Whispering Maples
Did you know in 1870 there were NO TREES, and only 2 buildings on campus?
Our original “whispering maples” were about the size of a broom and planted by students instead of attending class that day. Grown on the property of trustee George Griffith, the gift of seedlings prompted the college’s second president, Rev. Alexander Burns, to declare a school holiday. Each student was asked to transplant only one or two trees but the result was a perimeter of maples around campus and additional trees throughout which grew for generations.
Together, the individual maples completely transformed campus. On #ONESimpsonDay we’re inviting YOU to transform the future too.
#ONESimpsonDay is easy and entirely online, no tree planting required. Click here for more info!
