Simpson Productions presents anthropology, Oct. 3-5

Simpson Productions presents Lauren Gunderson’s anthropology directed by Ann Woldt. The production opens on October 3 and runs until October 5 in Barnum Studio Theatre.
Merril has gone through what no sister should ever go through- the disappearance of her sister, Angie. In an effort to help manage her grief, Merril assembles all the digital material that Angie has left behind and creates a ‘virtual Angie’. Virtual Angie is helpful until it begins to unravel the real Angie’s disappearance. anthropology raises compelling questions about the ethics of artificial intelligence, the nature of memory, and the lengths to which individuals will go to preserve or recreate lost loved ones.
Director Ann Woldt noted, “Lauren Gunderson wrote anthropology at a time when the use of AI began to infiltrate every aspect of our lives. Our production focuses on the fragile line between human connection and digital reproduction and explores the question: how do we grieve when AI offers us a way to keep our loved ones ‘alive,’ at least in a virtual sense?”
Performances are in the Blank Performing Arts Center at Simpson College on October 3-4 at 7:30 p.m. and October 5 at 2:00 p.m.. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and non-Simpson students, $7.00 for group (10 or more) tickets, and free for Simpson students and employees with IDs.
