Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Telephone” and Samuel Barber’s “A Hand of Bridge” are one-act pieces that explore life and love in the 20th century. Quirky characters stumble through commonplace occurrences, like chatting with a loved one or getting together with friends. Even today, the operas are timely, fun and sure to leave the modern audience laughing.

The operas are directed by Mimi Kammer, chair of the department of theatre arts. Music was prepared by conductor Bernard McDonald, associate professor of music and the G. Dewey and M. Maine Larsen Chair in Opera.
