Speech and Debate Wins Again
Simpson’s Speech and Debate team topped 23 teams to win several categories at the University of Central Missouri – Missouri Mule tournament, Oct. 11-13. Simpson captured top honors in the Overall Sweepstakes and Individual Event Sweepstakes, while also being recognized as the top PKD chapter. Simpson took third place in the Debate Sweepstakes. No points breakdown was released for the event.
Four Simpson competitors claimed multiple tournament champion honors in the speech event. Ryan Magalhaes finished first in Communication Analysis, Program of Oral Interpretation, Jack of All Trades Award and Pentathlon. Anja Waugh took home top honors in After Dinner Speaking and Informative Speaking. Andrew Samountry won Poetry Interpretation, while he and Ryan Corcoran also claimed first place in Duo Interpretation.
Simpson also captured multiple team and individual honors in a separate one-day tournament held Sunday at the University of Central Missouri — the Dale Carnegie Swing. Again, Simpson finished first in the Overall and Individual Event Sweepstakes, while also being named top PKD chapter in that 14-team event. Simpson also took first in the Combined Sweepstakes, based on winning both tournaments.
Sunday’s star performers included three tournament champions: Ryan Corcoran in Extemporaneous Speaking; Anja Waugh in Informative Speaking; and Andrew Samountry in Poetry Interpretation and Program of Oral Interpretation. Corcoran and Samountry also took the top prize in Duo Interpretation.
