TRIO-Student Support Services earns perfect score on grant proposal
Funding allows college to support traditionally underserved populations
The TRIO-Student Support Services program at Simpson College (simpson.edu) received a grant in the amount of $266,782 from the U.S. Department of Education to fund the academic and support services provided by the program.
Simpson was notified of the grant in a letter from the office of Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). The grant proposal submitted by Simpson’s TRIO-Student Support Services staff received a perfect score.
“Receiving this grant is a reflection of Simpson College’s commitment to inclusive educational access,” said Stephanie Neve, director of TRIO-Student Support Services at Simpson College. “Students who take part in our program have higher GPAs and are more likely to graduate than eligible non-participants. We motivate and support our students to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.”
TRIO-Student Support Services is a federally-funded program designed to provide academic support, cultural activities and personal development programming to traditionally underserved populations. At Simpson, the program serves those who are first-generation, low-income or disabled.
