Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium Set for April 21
More than 100 students will be featured presenters in the 2022 Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium to be held Thursday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on the Simpson College campus.
Students will share their research and creative works in a wide variety of disciplines through oral presentations, performances and poster sessions. In all, the event will include nearly 50 oral presentations and poster displays.
“This is an incredibly powerful way to demonstrate the breadth and depth of academic rigor students engage in at Simpson College,” says Dr. Katherine Vance, assistant professor of mathematics and chair of the symposium. “Every year, our community is blown away by the students’ impressive work and what it reveals about our mentoring faculty and the highly personalized and collaborative learning environment they foster here,” she continued.
The event will also include a virtual keynote address by Simon Donner, professor for the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability and the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia. As an interdisciplinary climate scientist, Donner teaches and conducts research at the intersection of climate change science and policy.
Between the morning and afternoon sessions, Donner will discuss “Avoiding Dangerous Climate Change” in his keynote address. Symposium attendees will see Donner’s live virtual address at 12:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, Kent Campus Center. The public can register to attend the keynote address via Zoom.
