The Simpson College Board of Trustees announced today that Bob Lane, Vice President of College Advancement, has been named Interim President of Simpson College. His new role will take effect January 1, 2020.

Simpson’s presidential search committee has engaged a national search firm to gather a list of diverse candidates from both academic and non-traditional backgrounds. The position has garnered significant interest, resulting in a strong pool of quality candidates. Following the timeline set by the search firm, the college will move forward with the interview and selection process in early 2020.

“Leading Simpson through this important time is an honor,” Lane said. “This college is an incredible place, one that I’ve been lucky enough to call home for the last 13 years. I look forward to doing what’s best for Simpson during this transition and ensuring our great legacy continues with the next president.”

Lane has led all fundraising activities and programs of the alumni office and has also served in the President’s Cabinet. Outgoing President Jay Simmons will transition to a support role until a new president is named.

“I want to thank Jay Simmons as we continue the comprehensive process of finding the next president of Simpson,” said Terry Lillis, Chair of the Simpson College Board of Trustees. “He has been thoughtful in helping with the transition, which will continue with Bob as Interim President.”

A new leader will be named when the Board of Trustees votes to approve the appointment.
