Memo to Simpson College

Jay Simmons, Simpson College President

Dear Campus Community –

Today, I want to personally share with you my plan to step aside as president of Simpson College.

As you know, I have loved my time here, which makes this decision bittersweet. However, I believe now is the right time for a new president to bring the campus community together and advance the mission of Simpson College.

While working with faculty, staff and students, I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish. As you know, our students have earned three national debate titles, we implemented the Simpson Promise, and we have consistently remained one of Iowa’s top private colleges. We were also recently ranked 15th in the nation by EDSmart, a scholastic ranking specialist, for our online programs. Simpson was the only college in Iowa to make the list. These are some of the many successes we share together.

However, there have also been hard decisions and difficult changes, and we have walked that path together as well. Today, Simpson is well-positioned for a strong and vibrant future.
I will continue in my role as president and work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees until a successor is named. Likewise, I will work with the new president to ensure a smooth transition.

My future may include another opportunity in higher education, or corporate leadership. Regardless of my next role, Jennè and I will cherish the many opportunities, friendships and memories created during our time here at Simpson College.

Respectfully,

Jay Simmons
