Molly Boheman ’17

With Experience, Education, and Passion Anything Can Be Achieved

With the Big 4 accounting firms (Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG) just miles away in Des Moines, accounting can be a competitive field to enter. Luckily, Molly Boheman ’17 chose Simpson College to complete her degree in accounting with a CPA concentration.

Molly didn’t know it at the time of her decision, but coming to Simpson would allow her the flexibility to take a semester off from classes to pursue an internship with KPMG in Des Moines. When she returned to classes, Molly realized how beneficial the experience really was.

“Coming back after technically taking a semester off and taking more accounting classes and seeing how they applied to what I had been doing in the real world was amazing,” she said. “It put everything in perspective and reassured me that I was on the right path.”

Benefiting From the Larger Community

Like many other students, Molly also benefited from the larger Simpson community. During her initial interviews for her internship at KPMG, she interviewed with two alumni.

“It was so great to have that connection and I know they fought for me to get the internship,” Molly said. “I’ve heard from multiple employers that Simpson student’s resumes will usually go on the top of the pile when they’re looking to hire.”

After her internship, KPMG offered Molly a full-time job post-graduation, but she was hesitant because of the size and the location. She longed to be somewhere closer to home in Ackley, so when a friend from home mentioned looking at RSM, an accounting firm with a location in Waterloo, she was eager to find out more.

“After I showed interest, my friend spoke with RSM and they didn’t actually have an opening.  However, after hearing about my experience and education and passion for public accounting they actually created a new position for me,” Molly said.

Thankful for Opportunities

Though she’s not staying in the greater Des Moines area, Molly is thankful for all the opportunities the Simpson community has offered her thus far and will continue to provide.

“The Simpson community is so huge and every time I meet someone who also went to Simpson I love having a conversation with them. I’ve seen job opportunities arise from the network of Simpson alumni,” she said. “The small school atmosphere was perfect for me and it has proven to be one of the best decisions I ever made.”
