Simpson Youth Academy

The Simpson Youth Academy is a unique program on campus that allows rising high school juniors and seniors to explore their faith and prepare for college.

At the Simpson Youth Academy we believe that young people have power and gifts that are essential for the healing of the world, not just in the distant future, but now. Grounded in the Christian tradition and utilizing resources from the United Methodist Church, we are an ecumenical community of youth and adult mentors who explore deep faith-related questions and take action, in order to equip youth to live into their callings as agents of peace and justice in the church and world.

How Does SYA Work?

SYA brings 25 high school students to live and learn on Simpon’s campus from June 21-29, 2025. Students will get a taste of college life, explore deeper questions about faith and social justice, connect with supportive peers and mentors, and explore the question “what do I want to do with my life?” This includes living in the dorms, sitting in on college classes, taking service trips into the community, and learning to lead in service and worship settings. After the summer, students are invited to engage in ongoing SYA activities like retreats and Zoom calls. But the only requirement is to attend the summer residency. Everything else is optional!

Q: Is this a Simpson College recruitment program?
A: No! You do not need to have an interest in attending Simpson College to participate in SYA.

Q: Is this a program only for people who want to be pastors?
A: No! SYA is for all students who want to prepare for college and grow in faith and leadership.

Q: Is there a cost? 
A: Is it free to apply for SYA. We ask accepted students to pay $500 of tuition for the year. But we have plenty of financial aid and are committed to helping all students attend SYA if they are interested. Don’t let financial concerns stop you from applying!
