Frequently Asked Questions

Theatre scholarships are available to new or continuing Simpson College students. The awards are given based on an audition and interview process. Scholarships are available for both theatre majors and non-majors. Students earning a Theatre scholarship are expected to participate in all theatre productions.

For the Theatre scholarship:

The audition will consist of an interview with a Theatre faculty member- either in person or virtual.

At the beginning of your audition, you should introduce yourself and then the names of the pieces you are performing.

You are not auditioning for a part in a show; you are trying to “showcase” your abilities and potential. Therefore, choose material that you are comfortable with, that you can do well and that lets your audience see you at your best.

Following the audition, you will meet virtually or in person with departmental faculty for the interview. This is an ideal time for you to ask any questions you may have about the Theatre Department.

Students interested in technical theatre areas should provide a link to their portfolio that reflects their technical experiences. Items to include could be: drafting, sketches, renderings, production photos, light plots, or pages from journals, promptbooks or marketing material.

Technical students will either meet in person or virtually with departmental faculty to talk about their thechnical theatre background and go through your portfolio. Technical portfolios can be created either online or as a physical portfolio.
