Physical Education Teacher Education
If you love sports, exercise, and teaching, this is your major.
Physical Education Teacher Education
The Sport Science and Health Education Department offers many opportunities for career choices in health and physical education.
The physical education major is for students who want to obtain licensure to teach physical education in grades K-12. This major requires courses from the Sport Science and Education Departments.
The PETE major combines theoretical knowledge with practical application by working with students in area schools. Students have numerous opportunities to apply teaching concepts in high, middle, and elementary school settings, culminating in a semester-long student teaching experience.
Students can receive a K-8 or a 5-12 teaching endorsement or a health endorsement for K-12.
What will I learn?
You will be prepared to become a licensed physical education teacher by incorporating coursework from the Department of Sport Science and the Department of Teacher Education. You can receive a K-8 or 5-12 teaching endorsement or a health endorsement for K-12.

Earn Your Health Endorsement
At least 50% of our PETE majors get their health endorsement. The endorsement is designed around the state teaching requirements and national health standards and allows the graduate to work in the classroom with students in grades K 12. It’s an added benefit when looking for a job.
