Frequently Asked Questions

Theatre and Simpson Productions scholarships are available to new or continuing Simpson College students. The awards are given based on an audition and interview process. Scholarships are available for both theatre majors and non-majors. Students earning a Theatre or Simpson Productions scholarship are expected to participate in all theatre productions.

Theatre scholarships are available for both theatre majors and non-majors who are interested in performance or technical theatre. Simpson Productions scholarships are available for Theatre and/or Music majors who are interested in performing in musicals and operas as well as plays.

For the Theatre scholarship please prepare the following:

  • One contemporary monologue 90 seconds in length

For the Simpson Productions scholarship, please prepare BOTH of the following

  • One contemporary monologue 90 seconds in length
  • One musical theatre piece 90 seconds in length

At the beginning of your audition, you should introduce yourself and then the names of the pieces you are performing.

You are not auditioning for a part in a show; you are trying to “showcase” your abilities and potential. Therefore, choose material that you are comfortable with, that you can do well and that lets your audience see you at your best.

Following the audition, you will meet virtually or in person with departmental faculty for the interview. This is an ideal time for you to ask any questions you may have about the Theatre Department and/or Simpson Productions.

Students interested in technical theatre areas should provide a link to their portfolio that reflects their technical experiences. Items to include could be: drafting, sketches, renderings, production photos, light plots, or pages from journals, promptbooks or marketing material.

Technical students will either meet in person or virtually with departmental faculty to talk about their thechnical theatre background and go through your portfolio. Technical portfolios can be created either online or as a physical portfolio.
