Campus Services and Res Life Team Up to Donate Old Mattresses Over Break

On Monday the 13th, campus services worked with residential life to switch out old mattresses in Barker and Kresge while students are away on spring break. The old mattresses were donated to Free Store, which supports children and families who have escaped domestic violence situations.

The team switched out roughly 60 old mattresses with new ones residential life had ordered. They worked with Harvest Academy Movers and volunteers from the Free Store as well as Simpson’s own Ethan Brown joined in on the fun. All but one mattress was donated to the Free Store. Truly a great cold day to do the move, the team had got this done in no time.

The Free Store is located at 1020 24th St. West Des Moines. Their mission is..

“We support children and families who have escaped domestic violence situations and those suffering from some other form of trauma including natural disaster and criminal assault.  We provide donated furniture and household goods as these families begin new, independent, productive lives in safe environments.”

Phil Cottingham and Marty Rathje lent a hand moving old mattresses out, they counted 61 mattresses donated. Marty said “We really appreciate it and it will help us with our mission of helping families start over.”

Harvest Academy Movers is located off of G24 in Indianola. Their mission is…

“We’re not your average moving company. At Harvest Academy Movers, we aim to provide superior customer service, affordable pricing and to give our customers the easiest moving experience possible.”

Chris, Quentin and Marshall helped move in the new mattresses. These individuals have helped with many projects all around campus. They are really hard workers, we couldn’t thank them enough.
