Destination Report Reveals Impressive Outcomes for Simpson Graduates

The Class of 2022 is excelling in careers and graduate school, as evidenced in this year’s First Destination Report, published by Simpson College. Of those holding bachelor’s degrees, 94 percent were employed or attending graduate school within six months of graduation. Additionally, for the sixth consecutive year, 100 percent of master’s degree recipients gained employment. The findings are based on a 96 percent response rate.

The report reveals strong —in many cases perfect — placement rates across diverse fields of study. Teacher Education and Management Information Systems graduates earned 100 percent employment, while 16 of 17 accounting majors were employed with the other headed to graduate school. Meanwhile, all 38 graduates in Sport Administration and Health & Exercise Science were employed, in or destined for graduate school.

Additionally, 100 percent of math, data science, actuarial, neuroscience, psychology and computer science majors gained employment or were enrolled or on their way to graduate school. Natural science programs, including biology and environmental science — as well as chemistry and biochemistry — also produced high volume success in gaining career employment and graduate school enrollment.

Continuing education highlights for the Simpson Class of 2022 included prestigious program placements at Johns Hopkins University, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, Northwestern University (Medill) and the University of Roehampton in London, as well as multiple placements in grad programs throughout Iowa.

“I continue to be impressed by the impressive caliber of our graduates,” said Marsha Kelliher, president of Simpson College. “We are blessed to have a superb faculty who are all personally invested in teaching and mentoring students to their fullest potential. Year-in, year-out, the differentiating and enduring value of a Simpson liberal arts degree is abundantly evident.”

Simpson’s commitment to continuous innovation in the liberal arts is further validated in the most recent national “Big 6” findings, which focus on the six key undergraduate experiences that have the greatest influence on post-graduation success. Nearly 9 out of 10 (88 percent) of Simpson graduates had at least three of those experiences, which is nearly three times the national average of 32 percent.

Participation in undergraduate research and internships are a significant part of the Big 6 success factors — cocurricular learning that has become a hallmark of the Simpson experience.

More than three out of four graduates in 2022 (76 percent) participated in at least one internship or conducted research — or both.

The Class of 2022 is making its impact across the country — thriving in 23 states, with 78 percent of graduates residing in Iowa.
