Legends of Simpson video series returns Feb. 8

The Legends of Simpson Lecture Series, the popular live video series featuring Simpson College emeriti faculty, begins its second season Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. CST.

Featuring beloved emeriti faculty lecturing on a wide range of thought-provoking topics via Zoom, Legends of Simpson debuted in January 2021. The series attracted hundreds of fans, allowing alumni and friends of the College the chance to hear from some of the most decorated and longest tenured faculty members in Simpson’s storied history.

This year’s speakers include former religion professor Jan Everhart, former chemistry and physics professor Ron Warnet, former sociology professor Ev Laning and former education professor Alan Magruder. 

All lectures are free of charge and open to the public. Past lectures will be made available at both simpson.edu and Simpson College’s YouTube page.

2022 Legends of Simpson Schedule

  • Feb. 8 – “Say Her Name: The Story of Jerena Lee” presented by former religion professor, Jan Everhart. Everhart is one of six professors to win both the College’s Distinguished Teaching Award (2016) and its Distinguished Research Award (2012).
  • Feb. 22 – ”The Future of Science” presented by former chemistry and physics professor, Ron Warnet. Warnet is one of just five professors to win the College’s Distinguished Research Award twice (1986, 1995). He also earned the Campus Leadership Award in 1992.
  • March 8 – “Campus Tales Untold: Another Take on the ‘Whispering Maples’ Reputation” presented by former sociology professor, Ev Laning ’53. Laning won the Campus Leadership Award in 1995. The annual Outstanding Senior in Sociology award is named in his honor.
  • March 22 – “The Joy of …” presented by former education professor, Alan Magruder. Magruder won the College’s first Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986 and is one of just five professors to win twice, adding a second honor in 1991.
