Simpson College among best values in America according to Money Magazine
National ranking factors educational quality, affordability and alumni success
Simpson College (simpson.edu) ranks among the nation’s top colleges and universities according to Money magazine’s 2020 Best Colleges for Your Money report.
Simpson comes in at No. 17 among small, private colleges and universities in the Midwest and ranks in the top half of the 739 institutions assessed by the magazine. Money’s seventh-annual list identifying colleges and universities by value considered three primary factors: quality of education (30 percent), affordability (40 percent) and outcomes (30 percent).
“Our position on Money magazine’s list is a result of our commitment to inclusive educational access,” president Marsha Kelliher said. “We strive to provide our students with an unmatched, future-proof educational experience that will prepare them for successful, meaningful careers.”
Simpson fared particularly well in the outcomes category, ranking No. 1 in early career earnings among small, private colleges and universities in Iowa. According to data reported by alumni to Payscale.com, Simpson graduates with no more than five years of work experience earn an average annual salary of $48,000, which ranks No. 9 among small, private colleges in the Midwest.
Overall, Simpson ranks 352nd on Money magazine’s list. Other notable rankings include 184th among private colleges and universities in the nation, 91st among small, private colleges and universities in the nation and 25th among private institutions in the Midwest.
Data collection and analysis for the rankings were led by American Institutes for Research (AIR) researchers Dr. Robert Nathenson and Dr. Audrey Peek, with the help of researcher Melissa Arellanes and research associate Marina Castro. Quality control was led by Dr. Eric Larsen of AIR. Money’s editorial staff, however, was solely responsible for the final ranking decisions.
