Simpson Productions presents ‘Festival of New Plays: A Podcast’
Company closes calendar year with collection of four short radio plays written by current students and alumni
Simpson Productions, the theatre, opera and musical theatre collaboration at Simpson College, closes the calendar year with a collection of four short plays in “Festival of New Plays: A Podcast.”
The podcast went live Dec. 1 and is available online through Dec. 7 at The Tiny Writing Collective. There is no charge for virtual events in 2020-21. Visit simpson.edu/SimpsonProductions for more details.
The four short radio plays are written by three recent alumni and one current student. The actors are all current students. The 2020 Festival of New Plays include:
“Blind Trust” by Michael Ciesielski ’20
A thief breaks into a woman’s house and gets caught, but discovers the woman is blind. Now the thief must pretend to be her daughter to get out of the mess. Featuring Jocelyn Smith as Shawn and Lyra Halsten as Cassidy.
“Constant Bitching” by Eden Moad
Two partners bitch at each other constantly. Featuring Garrett Livingston as Gray and Tanner Striegel as Fallon.
“Disjointed” by Dallas Williams ’20
Nora is stuck. Stuck in the past, in a clock shop, in her head, in reality. Stuck with inconsistent memories. Stuck with a mysterious employee. Stuck with a clock that doesn’t tick. Nora is stuck. Featuring Michelle Pritchard-Hall as Nora and Sabrina Fullhart as Employee.
“In the Pines” by Maria Kosovich ’19
An engineer has invented a machine to speak to the dead. The first person she contacts leaves her wondering if her machine actually works, or if her mind is playing tricks on her. Featuring Jess Doster as Talia and Alexia Tebben as Isabelle.
The plays were produced by Jennifer Nostrala, professor of theatre arts. Ashley Keintoff served as the sound assistant.
