Secondary education students earn a full major in their teaching content and a major in Education Studies – Teaching and Learning Concentration.

At Simpson, the Education Studies – Teaching and Learning Concentration (Secondary Licensure) program prepares you with a strong liberal arts foundation and a dual focus on both the content you’ll teach and the pedagogy you’ll use to teach it. Recognized by the Iowa Department of Education, our strong educator preparation program develops the next generation of exceptional teachers ready to lead in today’s schools and communities.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. In this program, you’ll work closely with faculty who are invested in your success while gaining extensive hands-on experience through observations, practicums, tutoring, classroom practice teaching, and a full semester of student teaching. These experiences allow you to apply what you learn, develop your teaching skills in real educational settings, and gain experience working with diverse learners across multiple teaching environments. You’ll graduate with the content expertise, practical experience, and professional foundation to make a meaningful difference wherever your career takes you.

It offers a bachelor’s degree program, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and a Transition to Teaching (T to T) program for graduate students seeking initial teaching licensure at the secondary level.

Education Club

The purpose of the Education Club is to provide education majors with a chance to learn more about the field that they have chosen for their career. The Education Club has many events throughout the school year. We have speakers come in to talk to the members about various topics dealing with education. The goal of the Education Club is to create a safe and fun environment for education majors, minors, and others interested in becoming a part of in order to grow, develop, and learn more about education, as well as provide outreach opportunities and workshops to better prepare education students for the real world. The purpose of this organization is consistent with the mission of Simpson College.
