A short description about why it is important for instructors to teach students to look for validity of web sources. The author provides four key criteria to evaluate a web source: Context, Authority, Frequency and Regularity, & Corroboration. She also then describes in five steps how to apply these to a website.

Go To Materials

Strengths

The goal of the text is specific: to help faculty help students evaluate the validity of the source.

Concerns

The text is short, and it serves only as an introduction to checking sources for validity.  Some adaptations would be necessary for easy student use.

Recommendations For Use

The talk-aloud activity could be effective, but it would need to be converted into a checklist for students to use.  The four criteria could be converted into a series of questions that students could use to evaluate the website.
