Music students at Simpson have the opportunity to study oboe with an instructor who is also a professional oboist and an experienced teacher.
Biography
Susan Odem received her Bachelor of Music degree in oboe from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Master of Music degree from Drake University, studying with Jay Light. She is a member of the Des Moines Symphony and of several chamber ensembles, including the Lyric Winds, a Simpson College faculty ensemble.
Expertise
Ms. Odem is also an adjunct instructor of Double Reeds Methods, Music Theory, and World Music at Simpson and other colleges.
In addition to teaching oboe at Simpson, Ms. Odem teaches a large private studio of talented oboe and bassoon students in grades 5-12.
