Internships play a key role in your career development during college and prepare you for professional pursuits after college.

These important work experiences allow you to apply what you've learned in the classroom to a professional setting while being supported by industry mentors.

Often internships turn into full-time positions. Regardless, you’ll gain valuable professional experience, a chance to explore your career options, learn new skills and build a broader network. Simpson College students have interned in a wide range of positions, places and industries—from Principal Financial Group in Des Moines to the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis to the United States Senate in Washington, D.C.

Location matters

In recent years, Des Moines has been touted by numerous outlets as one of the best cities in the country for young professionals because of its job growth, opportunity and affordability. Simpson’s deep-rooted connections and proximity to that thriving location will support your search for an internship that could lead to a successful first career outcome after graduation.

Applies as academic credit

We’re committed to making an internship’s valuable work experience work hard for you. As a sophomore, junior or senior, you can earn up to 16 academic credits for learning completed through internships. You may also be paid by your employer while earning academic credit, or you may be eligible for a Hubbell Fellows gift, which provides wage assistance for unpaid internships.

Receive college-wide support

You’ll work with your faculty advisor to plan ahead for your internship (they’ll make sure your experience follows all departmental requirements), and you can schedule an appointment with a team member in Career Development for personalized assistance with the most effective internship search methods and advice to land the perfect opportunity.
