Smith Chapel/Holy Grounds

Campus Ministry

Holy Grounds Coffee Shop

Holy Grounds, located just inside Smith Chapel in Dirlam Lounge, is managed by a team of student managers and staffed by student volunteer baristas. The lounge is a popular gathering place on campus.

In all we do, we strive to be hospitable, equitable and sustainable.

We seek to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere where our campus community enjoys gathering. We partner with fair trade coffee suppliers such as Equal Exchange and Don Justo to ensure the coffee we serve is sourced sustainably and those involved in the production process—everyone from growers to harvesters—are paid a fair wage for their product. All of our consumable products are compostable or recyclable.

Any student can be trained as a barista and receive tips and a free drink for their shift. Student hours are also eligible for Wesley Service Scholar hours. Last year, our baristas served a total of 767 hours to keep our coffee shop running smoothly. Holy Grounds is always looking for student volunteers so if you have always wanted to practice being a barista, this could be your chance.

Holy Grounds is also the location of our weekly community night, LIFT (Living In Fellowship Together). We start with a free, home-cooked meal and wrap up with dialogue-based worship which includes communion.
