Become a leader in the classroom and in the profession
A Simpson College degree in education matters. For generations, we have established a tradition of excellence so school administrators know they can trust Simpson graduates.
Find out how studying at Simpson will benefit you!
From the personal attention from professors you'll receive to the high quality, integrated field experiences, the reputation that comes with your degree will position you above the rest.
Begin the major right away.
No waiting! You may take your first education class in the very first semester of college.
Small classes with experienced faculty.
The small class sizes insure solid relationships with your professors who bring to the classroom a diverse range of experiences and teaching backgrounds.
Complete the program in four years.
That's right. Completing your bachelor's degree and earning your teaching license in four years is the standard at Simpson.
Outstanding relationships with area school districts.
One area educator had this to say about our program:
"At this point, I'll only take Simpson students - others are not as prepared and not as well supervised. When I get a Simpson student, I know they have content knowledge, pedagogy, and a college faculty offering support. I'm exclusive to Simpson now..."
Ideal location for field placements.
Because of where Simpson is located, you will have a wide variety of field experiences from which to choose in classrooms ranging from rural K-12 schools to large urban campuses and everything in between.
Faculty-supervised, integrated field experiences.
Professional field experiences leading up to student teaching are not just add-ons, but are woven into many courses throughout the program. Why is that important? Because you will work with full-time Simpson faculty rather than temporary adjuncts or graduate students, who can help you transfer your knowledge to the actual classroom.
We get kudos!
We don't want to brag, but after an extensive formal evaluation from the Iowa State Department of Education, they said this about our program:
"The Simpson Teacher Education Program is one of the largest departments on campus, has an excellent reputation, and is well known for creating excellent teachers. Simpson has an exemplary program."
Take advantage of every opportunity
Enrich your education by participating in one or more of these activities.
During your four years at Simpson, you can earn a variety of endorsements in elementary and secondary education as well as in physical education and music.
What else can I do with an education degree?
Not everyone who receives a degree in education becomes a teacher. The skills you will acquire through your coursework at Simpson will prepare you to go to graduate school, become a school counselor, hold an administrative position in a school setting or find employment outside of education such as a lawyer or a corporate trainer.
