Education Studies – Culture, Context, and Policy Concentration
Major
Education Studies facilitates the development and practical utilization of critical skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary for the deliberate process of transformation in and beyond schools.
Education Studies Majors with the Culture, Context, and Policy Concentration are encouraged to double major in another discipline. They will work with an education advisor to tailor the Education Studies Major to their own unique interests.
What will I learn?
The Culture, Context, and Policy Concentration is a non-licensure degree for those who desire to work or move into non-teaching education-related fields including educational law, educational policy, social work, non-profit organizations, journalism, counseling, school psychology, school social work, educational publishing, leadership development, and business or ministerial-related teaching. This concentration is also for those students interested in establishing a foundation in education prior to attending graduate school.
This class explores typical and atypical growth and development of human beings from birth through adolescence. Relevant research and learning theory are examined, especially as they relate to a teacher’s ability to provide learning opportunities that support the physical, cognitive emotional and social development of children and adolescents. An emphasis is placed on individual and group behavior and motivation, active engagement in learning and self-motivation.
