Providing fundamental support to participants as they prepare for college
Supporting the dream of higher education for all students, regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstances
The Simpson College Upward Bound program strives to provide individualized assistance and opportunities for students in grades 9 - 12 to succeed in their high school performance and ultimately in their college pursuits. This is done through intensive advising services, rigorous and nurturing academic support and culturally enriching activities.

Upward Bound has two primary components.
Academic component runs on the traditional school calendar and provides tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, career exploration, ACT preparation, college search assistance, college visits, college application assistance, FAFSA workshops, leadership development and cultural events.
Summer residential component runs for six weeks in June and July. Our students live on Simpson’s campus and are provided: academic instruction along with mentoring, cultural enrichment, work-study opportunities, service-learning opportunities, career exploration activities, college visits and field trips. At the end of the summer program, we take our students on a three to five day cultural trip as a reward for successful completion of the academic and summer components of our program.
We also offer our graduating seniors a program called Bridge. This program assists students in a smooth transition from life as a high school student to life as an independent college student.
