Simpson Welcomes Largest Class in Five Years

New student enrollment is up 11 percent at Simpson College with a total of 381 first year and transfer students beginning classes for the 2023-24 academic year today. The total marks the largest incoming class since Fall 2018.

“We are ecstatic about the size and strength of our incoming Class,” said Jay Byers, Simpson College President.  “It affirms Simpson’s growing regional and national acclaim as a top value in higher education. Our continued commitment to competitive student scholarships and ongoing investments in the Simpson educational experience are clearly resonating with students and their families.”

The Class of 2027 features students from 29 states, with 72 percent coming from Iowa. Diverse representation in the Class also includes 23 percent students of color and an overall 3.6 GPA. Total Simpson enrollment exceeds 1,100, which includes students in the College’s Continuing, Graduate and Online Education program.

Simpson consistently earns high rankings for quality, affordability and outcomes. Most recently, Simpson received 4.5 out of 5 stars in Money’s The Best Colleges in America 2023. With regards to post-Simpson success, 94 percent of the Class of 2022 were employed or attending graduate school within six months of graduation. Additionally, for the sixth consecutive year, 100 percent of master’s degree recipients are employed.

Enrollment Vice President Leigh Mlodzik says this year’s significant new student enrollment increase is a testament to the excellent work of admissions and financial aid staff, as well as the important contributions made by the entire College community.

“This is always a comprehensive team effort,” said Mlodzik. “Faculty and staff also play a vital role in sharing and showcasing the distinctive advantages of the highly personalized education we offer. Their passion for the College and enthusiastic engagement with prospective students make a very compelling case for Simpson.”
