ACS Chemistry Journals* Full-text of over 30 American Chemical Society journals.

Academic Search Elite* Premier scholarly database offering information in nearly every area of academic study. Citations and full-text articles available.

American Antiquarian Society (AAS) Historical Periodicals  Serials holdings of one of the American Antiquarian Society.

  • Series 1: Over 500 titles from 1691 through 1820
  • Series 2: Over 1000 titles dating from 1821 through 1837
  • Series 3: Over 1,800 titles dating from 1838 through 1852
  • Series 4: Over 1,100 titles dating from 1853 through 1865
  • Series 5: Over 2,500 titles dating from 1866 through 1877

American Physiological Society Legacy Journals (APS) Backfiles of the journals of the American Physiological Society. Content goes back to the first issue of each of the APS journals. These include American Journal of Physiology (1898-1997) and Journal of Applied Physiology (1948-1996).

BioOne.1* Full-text of over 80 bioscience research journals and additional abstracts. In collaboration with the Association of Research Libraries and the Greater Western Library Alliance, BioOne and our publishers have made articles related to coronavirus in the these journals available via open access through 2020.

Britannica Academic* More than 72,000 encyclopedia articles on all subjects. Includes maps, timelines and years in review.

Business Source Elite* Comprehensive database including scholarly journals and business periodicals covering topics such as accounting, economics, management, and marketing. Business Source Elite is provided in part by the Eberhart Library Resources Endowment Fund, a gift from Mrs. E. Kingman (Lola) Eberhart.

Chemical Abstracts  This comprehensive chemistry citation database can be searched via the STN Easy interface.

CHOICE Reviews Book orders can be made through Choice Online Reviews or Choice book cards sent out by library.

Communication & Mass Media Complete* Provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media.

Credo Reference Academic Core* Combines authoritative reference content with a one-stop exploratory search platform.

Des Moines RegisterFull-text articles available from 1999 to present. Dunn Library has a microfiche index July 1975 - Dec 1986.  DSM Public Library has an online index to the DMR (1986-) and other Des Moines newspapers. Included in US Newstream.

EBSCOhost* Search multiple databases (together or separately) to access periodicals, newspapers and reference tools, including full-text and peer reviewed. Contains specialized databases for mass communication, health and education.

ERIC from EBSCOhostPeriodicals and reference content from the government-created ERIC database, supporting the education field.

FirstSearch Multiple databases providing citations to articles on a variety of subjects. Databases include MEDLINE, ERIC, ArticleFirst, and GPO Monthly catalog.

Google Books Vast collection of digitized books, many full-text online.

Google Scholar Search for scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Want to search for materials in Dunn Library? Internet Archive An American digital library, providing free public access to collections of digitized materials, including millions of books.

IPA Music Source Library of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions and literal translations of opera arias and art song texts.

JSTOR* Arts & Sciences I, II & III and Music Collections include complete back runs of many journals in a variety of disciplines, including economics, history, music, political science, and sociology plus selection of titles in fields of archaeology, arts, classics, cultural studies, ecology, literature, mathematics, music, and statistics.

Kanopy*   Streaming video from over 1200 content partners: 60% documentary, 20% instructional, and 20% feature. Check out the Kanopy LibGuide with licensed films available for viewing at no additional cost along with expiration dates. Their Help Guide (close pop-up) answers FAQs including off-campus access, mobile use, embedding clips into Moodle and accessibility options. Manda Gibson made a Simpson-specific guide for embedding videos. Most films allow campus groups to show free screenings at Simpson; contact Cyd Dyer for screening information.

Life Magazine Archive* Presents extensive collection of famed photojournalism magazine, from first issue in November 1936 through December 2000 in  cover-to-cover format.

Bibliographic database for life sciences and biomedical articles in academic journals covering medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and healthcare.

Naxos Music Library* World´s largest streaming classical music library. Includes some jazz, world, and pop/rock. Limited to 8 simultaneous users.

New York Times* Full-text articles in the national "newspaper of record" from 1980 - date. Included in US Newstream.

Nexis Uni* Access to more than 17,000 news, business and legal sources from LexisNexis in three primary collections: 1) full-text access news sources worldwide back to the 1970s; 2) aggregated economic data on businesses, corporations, and industries; 3) full-text legal documents, including U.S. Federal and State court cases, and law reviews from late 18th century to present. Here is their guide to resources.

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) "The ultimate authority on the English language as well as a history of English speech and thought from its infancy to the present day". It is a unique source of scholarly information on  meaning, history and pronunciation of words both past and present.

Oxford Music Onlineincludes Grove Music Online, Oxford Companion to Music, and Oxford Dictionary of Music plus articles from specialty dictionaries such as  New Grove Dictionary of Opera and New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. Search box in upper right corner. Sign In in the left column under Simpson College is to access “personal accounts” and does need to be activated to use Oxford Music Online.

Oxford Scholarship OnlineProvides access to thousands of books from world-renowned scholarly list of Oxford University Press. Subjects included humanities, social sciences, sciences, medicine, and law.

Project MUSE* The Basic College Collection provides full-text, user-friendly access to over 190 humanities, arts, and social sciences journals.

PsycINFOAbstracts from more than 2,500 journals published by many publishers including the American Psychological Association (APA) with links to PsycARTICLES and other Dunn-subscribed full-text journals.

PsycARTICLES* Provides full-text for 100 journals published by APA, Canadian Psychological Association, Hogrefe Group, and Educational Publishing Foundation. 

PUBMED* Public access to MEDLINE citations from the mid 1960's available from the government.

SAGE Journals*
Focus on Criminology and Orthopaedics with full-text articles and abstracts.

ScienceDirect* Focus is broad coverage on health and life sciences with full-text articles and abstracts.

Statistical Abstract of the United States Comprehensive summary of statistics on social, political, and economic organization of the United States with 1400+ individually indexed tableswith attached spreadsheets, both searchable and browsable.
