What is a mentor?
A mentor is an SSS student who is a sophomore, junior or senior and who wishes to be a resource for new SSS students. A mentor is a guide, someone who was successfully transitioned into college life and who can help make that transition easier for other students. Mentors assist the SSS program with the CampusConnect program and with other events during the course of the school year.
What are the benefits of being a mentor?
Mentoring is a paid, professional opportunity for student leaders who want to help new students with the transition to college life. Mentoring during the CampusConnect program provides a chance to work one on one and in small groups with new incoming students while developing leadership and organizational skills.
Qualifications
Successful candidates for mentoring will:
- Have strong academic records (minimum 2.5 GPA) and good study skills
- Be a former Campus Connect participant
- Must be a strong participant of Student Support Services
- Have an enthusiastic commitment to helping new students succeed at Simpson College
- Be a 2nd or 3rd year Simpson Student
- Have a willingness to become thoroughly knowledgeable about Simpson requirements/regulations and Simpson’s support services
- Be available for training including continual training through the academic year
- Be willing to work flexible hours
- Be discreet and keep sensitive information confidential
