Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides Simpson College students, faculty, and staff research materials not available at Dunn Library.

Please check our resources through Discovery for availability before submitting requests. Include as much information as you can to help expedite your request: for books include title, author and ISBN; for journal articles include title, volume, issue number, page numbers, and ISSN.

Many library databases have direct links to ILL. Some publicly available databases like Google Scholar (guide) and PubMed (guide) will offer Simpson users a LinkSource link (sometimes labeled “Full Text at Dunn” or “Find Full Text at Dunn”). Use this link to connect to our full text resources, if available, or to an ILL request form.

The following electronic forms are available:

Article Request
Book Request

You will receive an email verifying your request has been received and is being processed.

Books are delivered by mail or courier service. Generally, materials arrive within 5-7 days. An email notification will be sent when your book/item arrives. You are required to show your Simpson ID when picking up books at the check-out counter. To provide the best continuing service to our users, materials must be returned on time.

Journal articles usually are delivered within 3-5 days. During peak demand and around holidays, it can take up to 2 weeks for material to arrive. Journal articles will be sent to your email either as an attachment or via OCLC Article Exchange. Article Exchange will send a web link with a password so you may access your document.

If you have questions about citations, material availability, or would like to meet to discuss your Interlibrary Loan requests contact interlibraryloan@simpson.edu or (515) 961-1485.

OPEN ACCESS
Students, faculty, and staff are able to check out items directly from other Iowa libraries that participate in the Open Access program. Materials can be checked out using a Simpson ID and may be returned to that library or to Dunn Library. A list of participating Open Access Iowa libraries is available.
