Major
The art of uncovering insights and trends through data
Gain an understanding of the evolving implications of how data can be used to solve real-world challenges today and into the future.
What will I learn?
You will learn to think critically about the process of understanding data. The major includes a foundation in the mathematics, data analysis and computing that are needed for the acquisition, visualization and analysis of complex data sets. A capstone internship experience will put the skills and knowledge learned into action.
You will cover topics including limits, continuity, derivatives, applications of derivatives and definite and indefinite integrals as applied to algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions.
What can I do with a data science major?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a data science major can find employment in just about any field including business, e-commerce, finance, government, healthcare, science, social networking, telecommunications and politics and polling to name a few.
