What will I learn?

The study of sociology goes beyond the basics of human behavior. With that as a foundation, you will become immersed in social and moral issues of the day as a way to bring life to theory.

There is no shortage of complex problems in our society today. Take an in-depth look at topics such as racism, sexism, poverty, crime and environmental pollution through the lens of social science to create your own proposed solutions.

What can I do with my degree?


Society in the 21st century is changing rapidly and so are the challenges. A degree in sociology provides you with a unique foundation to better understand and impact an ever more diverse and globalized world.

You will learn how position yourself to apply social theory to real-life situations, analyze and interpret social science data and formulate ethical responses to challenging situations - relevant skills to many diverse careers.

If you're not simply content to accept the world as it is and you want to make a difference, the interdepartmental Social Justice Studies major may be just what you're looking for. Your coursework will draw on ideas from across a number of academic areas, opening your mind to what it means to be a champion for social justice.
