Simpson’s 3-week May Term is a fun and educational way to end the year. You can choose international or domestic travel (see courses HERE), an internship, job shadowing, or a smaller on-campus seminar!
“Explore Washington D.C.” students visit sites in D.C. and Virginia, meet the Iowa congressional delegation, watch the U.S. Supreme Court hand down decisions, and even catch some Nationals baseball.

Discover Ireland and Great Britain (TRAVEL COURSE)
Visit prehistoric and Roman sites, medieval castles and cathedrals, modern palaces, and places where crucial decisions were made that shaped Irish, British, and world history. We explore Dublin, Edinburgh Castle, Stonehenge, Oxford University, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, British Museum, and more!
Exploring Politics in Washington, D.C. (TRAVEL COURSE)
Immerse yourself in 200 years of American politics and history as we meet elected officials, attend public lectures, see historic sites, and watch Congressional debates and U.S. Supreme Court rulings in real time. You also meet students in our CHIP semester and Simpson alumni who now live and work on “the Hill.”
Legal Practice in Iowa
What is it like to work in the legal profession? Hear firsthand from Iowa attorneys and judges about their lives inside the courtroom. Experience networking opportunities in Des Moines. You also learn about issues in the law: ethics, advocacy, juries, and the Iowa legal system. The class is taught by a Simpson graduate and attorney.
Simpson Political Survey
Improve your quantitative skills and experience the work of a real political pollster as you design, distribute, and analyze findings of an in-depth, election-year survey of Simpson students and faculty. You will conduct research, write a survey report for online publication, and then present your findings.
