FAQ

FOR EMPLOYEES

Why doesn’t my phone work when I plug it into another jack?

Employee phones are digital. That means they will only work in the jack at your office. Not every phone is interchangeable, so it may not work in another office either. Each phone could possibly be set up differently. If you require a phone in a room where there is not one, please contact Information Services at (515) 961-1619 or send an e-mail.

Is there another phone that I can have?

There are four different kinds of phones used at Simpson.

OE Basic cost $80, no display, one-way speaker, adaptor

OE Standard cost $180, display, one-way speaker, no adaptor

OE Advance cost $240, display, one-way speaker, adaptor

OE Advance Plus cost $280, display, two-way speaker, adaptor

The OE Basic is the provided phone unless your job requires a different phone. If you would like a different phone you must get approval from your department head, then contact Information Services at (515) 961-1619 or by e-mail with the phone you want and an account number for the phone to be charged to.

How do I make a conference call?

If you need to make a conference call, please contact Information Services at (515) 961-1619 or send an e-mail. Someone will walk you through the process or set one up for you.

I am having a meeting in a room without a phone and I need one. What do I do?

Contact Information Services at (515) 961-1619 or send an e-mail.

FOR STUDENTS

My phone does not ring.

Make sure your phone is plugged into the “A” jack and your ringer is turned on.

I don’t have a dial tone.

Make sure your phone is plugged into the “A” or “B” jack. Also make sure your phone cable is securely snapped into both the jack and phone and that your handset cable is snapped into place.

I have static on my phone line.

Make sure your phone cable is securely snapped into place and that your handset cable isn’t twisted or broken.

I don’t have Internet connection.

Make sure you have a CAT 5 ethernet cable plugged into your jack. An easy way to tell is if you look at the plug, you should see eight wire spots instead of the typical four or six for a phone wire. Also make sure that your ethernet cable is plugged into an ethernet jack, not a phone jack.
