This TED talk, approximately 12 minutes in length, uses both psychology and history to explain “motivated reasoning”, the process that underlies the decisions and ideas we defend. The speaker in this talk leads us to understand the value in intentionally being curious about multiple perspectives, essential in working collaboratively with others.
Strengths
Gives both a psychological and historical perspective on understanding why we think we’re right and the value of looking at the point of view of others.
Recommendation for Use
Use in or outside of class to spark reflection and/or discussion on why we defend our own ideas and the value of being intentional about understanding the perspectives of others.
