Print book in RAC includes lesson plans for most aspects of research. Bravender, Patricia, Hazel McClure, and Gayle Schaub, eds. Teaching Information Literacy Threshold Concepts: Lesson Plans for Librarians. Association of College and Research Libraries, A division of the American Library Association, 2015.
Material available in the Research Assistance Center in Dunn Library (print book).
ACRL enlisted a task force that drafted a new document called The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. Six frames were identified. The six frames are:
- Scholarship as Conversation
- Research as Inquiry
- Authority is Constructed and Contexual
- Information Creation as a Process
- Searching as Strategic Exploration
- Information has Value
Threshold concepts support the six frames. This book takes the frames and threshold concepts of information literacy and provides detailed lesson plans for teaching the concepts.
For example, under Authority is Contructed and Contexual there is a lesson on establishing and applying evaluation criteria. The concept is that context is crucial when evaluating information.
Strengths
Detailed lesson plans are provided. Assessment ideas are given.
Recommendations for Use
This is great resource for planning IL lessons and assignments. It can also be used for ideas on collaborating with a librarian.
